I’m not sure what 17.5-micron merino wool is exactly, besides that the Stoic Merino 150 Crew shirt is made with this material and that it’s really soft! True to Stoic’s claims, this shirt goes beyond the traditional long underwear-type shirt to provide that extra bit of comfort and warmth.
The other plus about the Stoic Merino 150 Crew shirt is that it can be worn as a regular shirt. My boyfriend, in fact, does wear it casually sometimes, rather than only while on the slopes or trail. In truth, the only true way to tell that the Stoic Merino 150 is meant to be for active wear is from its thumbholes, which are designed to hold your sleeve in place while you’re putting on a glove or jacket.
Speaking of thumbholes, I realize that not everyone likes these, myself included. However, as far as they go, these thumbholes don’t seem to be as cumbersome as others. If you’re in the market and checking out the Stoic Merino 150, this is definitely one thing to consider.
In terms of style, it comes in three colors – gray/blue, green/gray and yellow/gray. I personally think the yellow/gray color looks more like a soccer jersey than anything, but the other two colors are pretty stylish.
Finally, beyond the comfort, the other great thing about the Stoic Merino 150 is that it lasts forever! My boyfriend has worn this shirt probably hundreds of times by now and it is still incredibly intact. The only place where there is a bit of wear and tear is around the thumbhole cuff, but that is completely understandable considering the pressure that is put on it.
