Patagonia R1 Fleece Pant For Men
When you’re in the backcountry, layering is of the utmost importance in any season. Patagonia makes a perfect pant for unpredictability – the R1 Fleece Pant. My boyfriend has a pair and he takes them every time we venture into the backcountry, be it for skiing in winter or backpacking in summer.
Mainly, he’s very impressed with the dual feature of the R1 Fleece Pant – They’re not only incredibly warm for those chilling days or nights, but they’re also really lightweight and easily compressible into a pack. Even when he does heat up while hiking up a snowy, mountain face, the R1 Fleece Pant, he claims, wicks away the moisture so he’s not left cold once his temperature comes back down.
Along these lines, I should note that the R1 Fleece Pant is not an all-purpose pant. They’re a bit too warm to wear while doing strenuous activity on a summer day. However, they’re still great when the cold temperatures roll in on a summer night, so he typically wears them to sleep in the tent. If you’re looking for something that is not quite as warm, Patagonia certainly has some more breathable pants.
The other feature that may not be for everyone is that the R1 Fleece Pants have tapered legs. My boyfriend does not mind this since he typically wears them while winter backcountry trekking and therefore tucks them into his boot. However, I am not a fan of the super-tapered leg as I find it a bit too stifling.
However, all in all, the R1 Fleece Pant lives up to Patagonia’s high-quality reputation. It’s a durable, warm and practical purchase that is especially great for super cold weather.
