Give Osprey Aether 70 backpack a try. It’s lightweight, features a custom-moldable hipbelt and streamlined designed. The Aether’s tough and reliable, and its top-loading stowage shaves weight and is great for packing a plethora of gear for the long haul.
But how will it fit?
This Osprey daypack features AirScape Suspension that actively transfers load and resists sag. The nubbed foam back panel and internal framesheet provide additional comfort and support.
The removable hipbelt is custom-moldable. You can take advantage of Osprey’s custom molding in all REI stores. Be sure to check your local store for a custom hipbelt molding oven.
Have you found hipbone discomfort to be a problem on long hikes? The Aether 70’s specially design hipbelt closure allows for extra leverage in cinching. The tension is drawn along the top and bottom — not through the center — saving you from unneeded hipbone pressure. This extra support will keep you moving fast and hard across the back-country terrain, where you’ll appreciate the comfort of Osprey’s IsoForm harness and its moisture-wicking, well-ventilated mesh.
Other features of the Aether 70 Osprey backpack:
- an externally accessible bottom compartment that suits all types of sleeping bags
- maximization of lumbar support, by removing the top pocket and IsoForm hipbelt and sliding them into the lumbar pack
- easy access to essentials plus a built-in front mesh pocket for added capacity
- front compression wings for secure compression without sag or load distortion
- ski straps, ice axe tool loops, sleeping pad straps and extendable lid accommodate a variety of alpine gear
- hydration-compatible design features reservoir sleeve and dual drink tube exit port (reservoir sold separately)
- design that protects your back from bulky or pointy items and supports heavy loads
Reviewers on REI.com gave the Osprey Aether 70 backpack a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. One hiker took it on a five-day trip through Yosemite, and said that while it was packed very tight, he had room for everything he needed — including his Garcia bear belt.
Another reviewer took his Osprey pack through an excursion in Venezuela. It stood up to several river crossings, constant rain and tight rock passageways while maintaining its good looks. Hikers ranging from 5’8” to 6’6” complimented the Aether 70’s great fit.
Negative comments were virtually identical: not enough external pockets, limited access and a desire for hipbelt stowage pouches. Not too shabby for a pack that can often be found on sale for a great price.
