Kelty Lynx 2200 Junior Pack

Junior backpackers and adult hikers with smaller body frames will find a good fit, standout quality and highly adjustable comfort in Kelty’s Lynx 2200 kids backpack.

This lightweight hiking backpack weighs in at 2 lbs. 10 oz., a reasonable starter load for the hiker who’s new to hauling a pack or of a smaller stature.

The Lynx 2200 fits torso lengths ranging from 11 to 17 inches, and accommodates a waist/hip circumference of 28 to 38 inches. Some unisex or women’s packs begin with a torso length as compact as 14”, for reference, while 17” is close to the top length for a small-sized unisex pack.

Pockets are not overly abundant on this Kelty kids backpack, but that’s not really necessary. A total of four cubbies in addition to the main compartment are offered, plus a daisy chain, ice-axe loop and lash tabs for attaching gear to the outside of the pack.

There is no separate compartment for a sleeping bag, but there is a hydration reservoir sleeve with drinking tube exit port, although the bladder is not included.

If you are helping your child find their first hiking backpack, we recommend that you take them to a trusted retailer where a professional fitter can help adjust the torso length, shoulder straps and hipbelt with a loaded pack.

If you’ve experienced the pain of discovering you’ve adjusted your pack poorly whilst in the middle of a long hike with a heavy load, you’ll understand why you’d want to spare a young, inexperienced hiker that trouble.

Kelty doesn’t skimp on features in its junior’s packs. The Lynx 2200 ST (the ST stands for short torso) has an adjustable suspension with curved, padded shoulder straps and a padded hipbelt for proper load distribution. Load-lifter straps and belt stabilizers work just like the “grownup packs,” and Kelty includes its trademark Scherer Cinch hipbelt-tightening system for doubled pulling force.

The frame is made of light aluminum stays, and the back panel is suitably padded for support and protection from bulky gear. There is also a single compression strap, to help take up unused volume and keep the backpack nice and stable on the trail.
