You can access the Ice Lakes Trail about 2 miles from the Silverton Visitors Center off of Hwy 550 heading north. When you get to the South Mineral Campground sign, head west and drive until you arrive at the campground.

The trail starts at the parking lot here. This hike is a great half-day jaunt to some high alpine lakes with some gorgeous peak views and plenty of wildflower gazing along the way.

Ice Lakes trail is rated a moderate hike but if you’re not used to the altitude it can feel much more difficult. Just take it slow and enjoy the beauty around you to get the most from this hike. Take a break at the lakes and enjoy a well deserved lunch.

Head back to Silverton and try Natalia’s 1912 Family Restaurant and ask for a table on the patio if the weather is pleasant. Some other tantalizing choices include the Pickle Barrel, Handlebars and Brown Bear Cafe.
