Looking Out to Durango from Animas Mountain
On the north end of the town of Durango lies the trailhead for the Animas Mountain Trail. This hike is ideal in early spring and late fall when other high country trails may still or already be covered in snow and it is also a good choice for a winter hike/snowshoe. There are several good vantage points on the trail from which you can see the entire town of Durango to the south or the Animas Valley to the north and the best view of all when you reach the high point of this trail to the west where the La Platas seem close enough to touch.
