Durango Colorado In The News-Why It’s a “Best Place”

I’m not surprised to find that people are taking notice of my home town of Durango, Colorado. After reading the article this morning in the Durango Herald, I thought I would add my own two cents worth about why I choose to live here.

Men’s Journal came out with their list of 18 towns that epitomize “living well in the 21st century” and Durango was recognized as the “best place to put your outdoor life first” and I have to tell you people here do just that. You learn to relax and if you aren’t a particularly outdoorsy type person, you soon will be.

There is real time and there is Durango time. Durango time is the here and now. If you are a planner or like to organize way in advance you’re liable to feel like a fish out of water but then again maybe that’s just what you need. I know because I have always been a planner and I’ve learned to adapt. Just relax and take it as it comes.

Those that live and work here take their outdoor sports very seriously and don’t be surprised to learn that the bartender waiting on you may be a world class mountain biker or the cashier might be an ultra marathon winner. Almost everyone I know is passionate about something outdoors whether it’s a sport or fighting for wilderness protection or working to preserve our environment.

Durango is a real town with real people that love and appreciate the beauty and opportunity to immerse themselves in some of mother natures finest work and they’re willing to make certain sacrifices to do just that. Yes, lots of people here work multiple jobs and they work to live rather than live to work so it doesn’t seem like such a burden.

Durango is not for everybody but then again that’s a big part of it’s allure. Read more about Durango here.
