Technology buffs and those that are not so super tech-savvy, like me will equally love the Delorme Earthmate PN 60 GPS system. My boyfriend and I learned from experience.

I’m pretty clumsy when it comes to technology, but we got a Delorme Earthmate and I took to it right away. It’s incredibly user-friendly with an “app-like” interface similar to smart phones that make navigating through its features really easy.

My boyfriend, who knows his way around technology, is amazed by the actual features themselves. The Delorme Earthmate holds all types of maps including USGS quad maps, aerial photos, nautical maps, street maps and Canada top maps that you can even overlay onto one another. It can pinpoint where you are at any given moment and plot a course to where you want to go. I know that some people even use it for driving directions.

So, we both loved it before even going hiking, but the real proof is in the pudding as they say. When we took it out into the backcountry, we were both pretty impressed at how reliable it was. Whether in densely packed forests, high canyon walls or just really far off the beaten path, the Earthmate never failed us. More importantly, the battery never died, even after a few multi-day trips.

Another interesting tidbit about the Earthmate is that it claims it is so water proof that it can be submerge din water for up to 30 minutes. We didn’t want to test this out just because it seemed riskly. However, I can attest to the fact that the Earthmate has held up well in a few rainstorms.

All in all, great product!
