Arc’teryx Briza 62 Women’s Pack

One of the best things about hiking is that it puts men and women on equal footing. From mountaineering to rock climbing, guys and gals can share the same adventures — but should they really have to share the same gear? Of course not! Check out this Arcteryx backpack for women. ***note: Arcteryx is no longer making the Briza 62*** It has been replaced with the Arcteryx Altra 62. Go here to see the review on the Arcteryx Altra 62

A woman’s body is different than a man’s, and when it comes to carrying enough gear for extended, overnight hiking, her backpack should fit her body, not his. If you’re a woman who been compromising comfort by believing that a small men’s pack is “good enough,” it’s time to try the women’s Arc’teryx Briza 62.

Arc’teryx is a North American company that takes its name from the Archaeopteryx lithographica, the first

reptile to develop the feather for flight, “thereby freeing itself from the constraints of the horizontal world.” It’s in this spirit that Arc’teryx develops its products, and the Briza 62 is no exception.

The Briza 62 women’s hiking backpack (formerly known as the Bora 62) lets you carry more gear, more comfortably. Its top- and side-loading options make it simple to pack and a joy to carry. Reviewers praise the Arc’Teryx backpack- Briza 62 for having all their desired attributes. This pack has the potential to haul gear, rope, water bottles, food, and extra clothes for extended trips. A large front pocket and bottom sleeping bag compartment let you stow and organize the way you want, while bottom and side zippers provide great access.

A favorite feature of reviewers is the Briza 62 hiking backpack’s detachable waist pack for day trips. The pack lid has a separate belt built in, and when detached it becomes a daypack that can be carried around your waist or over a shoulder, like a purse.

It’s hard to find negative comments about the Briza 62. Some users found this backpack to be a bit heavy (an average 6 lbs. 3 oz.), but still more comfortable to wear and use than smaller men’s packs. Other users were annoyed that the Briza’s water bottle holders are not removable unless they are cut off.

When it comes to finding the right pack, it’s tempting to let a tight budget deter you from considering all your options. But as one reviewer discovered after hours of comparison-shopping, it’s important to try on a pack and have it loaded and adjusted by an experienced fitter. Although initially hesitant about the Arc’teryx Briza 62′s cost (it retails for $250-$350), this woman found that the well-balanced comfort of a fully loaded Briza made money obsolete. Said her fitter: “You won’t remember the great price you got on a pack if it feels terrible 25 miles into a 50-mile trek.”
